If you have a complaint about healthcare - contact the Patients’ Committee

If you have a complaint about the healthcare and treatment that you have received, first get in touch with the personnel you have already been in contact with. If that does not help, the Patients’ Committee can help resolve prospective problems that may arise.

The purpose of the Patients’ Committee is to support patients in their contact with the Health and Medical Services and to safeguard their rights. By presenting the patients’ point of view, the committee helps to develop the quality of healthcare.

Who is behind it?
The Patients’ Committee in Halland is a collaboration between Halland’s County Council and the municipalities of Laholm, Falkenberg, Varberg and Kungsbacka. Since the County Council and the municipalities collaborate, it does not matter if the care you received was from the County Council or from the municipalities – if you have a complaint about healthcare, you can always appeal to the Patients’ Committee.

When can I appeal to the Patients’ Committee?
You can contact the Patients’ Committee if you have received healthcare or treatment from:

  • The County Council
  • The municipality (Laholm, Falkenberg, Varberg or Kungsbacka)
  • Private healthcare providers contracted by the County Council or municipality
  • The National Dental Service

In addition, children and adolescents up to and including the age of 19 who have been treated by private dentists can appeal to the Patients’ Committee.

What can the Committee do for you?
If you have a complaint about the healthcare and treatment that you have received, the Committee can help resolve prospective problems. The Committee also helps with contact with The National Board of Health and Welfare, The Health and Medical Services Disciplinary Board or the Swedish Patient Insurance, to give some examples.

How do I get in touch with the Committee?
The Patients’ Committee in Halland has a joint telephone number for the entire county. The number is 020-42 20 30, and the call is free of charge. You can also write to the committee.

Who answers my call?

Health and Medical Services Disciplinary Board
If you feel that someone employed by the Health and Medical Services has committed a mistake or been negligent in their professional duties, you can register a complaint with the Health and Medical Services Disciplinary Board. The complaint must be submitted in writing within two years from the date the incident occurred. Before submitting a complaint, it is preferable that you contact the doctor in charge or the County Council’s Patients’ Committee in order to obtain any background information that could shed light on the mistake.
